Flight: LOT Polish Airlines LO279 WAW – LHR
Ticket: Reward ticket
Comments: The aircraft was somewhat elderly – it still had ashtrays in the arms of the seats – but it was clean and well-maintained. Flight attendants spoke in Polish and English and were friendly and efficient, keeping a constant presence in the cabin. Seating was the usual European economy 3 – 3 layout with the middle seat kept free. There were 3 rows in business class, with only 4 passengers. Economy seemed to be completely full. Service consisted of a pre-take off welcome drink of orange juice or water followed by a refreshing towel. A selection of Anglophone and Polish newspapers and magazines was offered. An aperitif consisted of bar service and a choice of peanuts or tomato chips. I took the tomato chips and they were delicious. Lunch consisted of a choice of pork or salmon with a fish starter. I chose the salmon with rice and it was delicious, the salmon cooked perfectly. The tray also included a cheese course, hot bread and chocolates for dessert. I can’t say much about their cellar as I ordered beer to drink and was offered Heineken or Żywiec. Naturally being on board a Polish airliner, I chose the Żywiec and it was frequently replaced. Perhaps it could have been slightly colder but it was perfectly fine. The quality of the cuisine was superb and the constant presence and attentiveness of the crew was outstanding. LOT offers the opportunity to travellers to bid to upgrade to the next class of service for a modest fee and given the excellence of the service as I experienced it today, is certainly worth considering. Lounge access for non-Schengen flights is through the Warsaw Chopin Airport Bolero lounge. It offered free wi-fi a good range of drinks and food.
