Flight Review: LOT Polish Airlines LO286 / LO3907 LHR – WAW – KRK

Flight: LOT Polish Airlines LO286 / LO3907 LHR – WAW – KRK
Class: Business / Economy
Ticket: Revenue ticket
Aircraft: Embraer 190 and Embraer 195
The first leg of this trip is one of the best flights I have had on any airline, ever. LOT offers the possibility to upgrade to business class at modest cost and I thought I would try it out. The way it works is that one bids (subject to a minimum amount) to upgrade and this bid is either accepted or declined 48 hours before departure. In this case mine was accepted and I was the only passenger in the business cabin on this flight. Flying between London and Krakow one has the choice of Easyjet or Ryanair or Wizz Air to Katowice and then taking a bus. Having compared the prices, it was clear that even with a connection in Warsaw, LOT offered the best deal. The service was outstanding. I arrived to my seat and the purser had already placed a selection of magazines and newspapers in the seat back pocket. I was offered a welcome drink and refreshing towel. Breakfast was served and consisted of hot breads and croissant and a variety of other baked goods (including what is possibly the most delicious chocolate muffin I have ever eaten). There was a Polish sausage which was sealed so it didn’t come into contact with the other food and some jam, liver pâté and butter. The orange juice was fresh and the coffee perfectly fine. The purser checked in often to see if everything was ok. The food was perhaps a little carb heavy but it was tasty and in copious quantity. The transfer in Warsaw was easy but the security check was far too intrusive. The short leg to Kraków was fine, only water and a chocolate bar were offered but both flights were on time.
