Reposting this because last night not all the photos uploaded. Curtain calls after Carmen at the Palau de les Arts in València. Huffman’s staging felt like a work in progress but Castronovo’s Don José was utterly gripping & superbly sung. Iniesta was a classy Micaëla. Spotti’s conducting of this orchestra, 1 of the top 3 in the world imho, was exceptional. #opera #operatravelling #curtaincall I’m delighted to be back at the Palau de les Arts in València for Carmen. With Berzhanskaya, Castronovo, Iniesta, Luciano & many more. Spotti conducts Huffman’s staging #opera #operatravelling Curtain calls after Manon Lescaut at the Teatro Real. What a classy singer Sondra Radvanovsky is, the voice so rich & full with a fabulous technique. Luisotti definitely brought the decibels from the house orchestra. #opera #operatravelling #curtaincalls I’m delighted to be back at the Teatro Real for Manon Lescaut. With Radvanovsky, Fabiano, Meachem, Spagnoli, Del Cerro & more. Luisotti conducts Wagner’s staging #opera #operatravelling Curtain calls after a musically superlative Le nozze di Figaro at the Teatro dell’opera di Roma. An almost entirely Italian cast who made the text fizzle with life led by a maestro who injected the work with irresponsible energy. Guth’s staging didn’t get in the way much. Overall an uplifting evening and possibly one of my top shows of the year #opera #operatravelling #curtaincalls I’m delighted to be back at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma for Le nozze di Figaro. With Priante, Guida, Torre, Arduini, Molinari, Bacelli, Scandiuzzi, Nardis, Nacoski, Ricci, Álvarez. Tjeknavorian conducts Guth’s staging. #opera #operatravelling Curtain calls after Aida in Helsinki. A thoughtful staging by Naamat that had a moment of insight but also was quite unmusical. Ettinger’s conducting was as wayward as usual, but the solo singing was decent. The real pleasure today came from the thrilling house chorus & superb orchestra. This chorus is one of the finest I’ve heard anywhere - run for a ticket for Peter Grimes here in November. #opera #operatravelling #curtaincalls I’m delighted to be back for the second day in a row at Finnish National Ooppera for Aida. With Aleksanyan, Bozhkov, Knihtilä, Pursio, Park, Soasepp & more. Ettinger conducts Naamat’s staging #opera #operatravelling Curtain calls after The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs at the Finnish National Ooppera. A work that captures the man in all his contradictions with music of rhythmic complexity that the orchestra and chorus attacked with staggering precision. It was decently sung across the cast. #opera #operatravelling #curtaincalls
